COUNCIL OF COMMUNITY PROSPERITY

The Council of Community Prosperity of Pissouri is
a voluntary organization of Social Security and was founded in 16/10/1995.

Members of the council are all the organised groubs of the community, which are represented by a permanent and surrogate representative.

It is managed by nine –member managing committee. The committee consists of by the Chairman, the Vice-president, the Secretary, the Cashier and 5 members.

Aims of the Council of Community Prosperity are the detection of social problems of the community and the promotion of necessary services and work of infrastructure for their resolution.

The economic resources of the Council come from annual government sponsoring, from income of services that offers and from various contributions.

It maintains a powerful Nursery School Centre to the Community, which functions as Infantile and Children's station as well as children's Club. It also offers care for old men at home.

FOLK CLUB OF PISSOURI
The Folk club of Pissouri was founded in the Pissouri in the 25/2/1998 aiming at the recording, scientific research and study of the material that constitutes the Greek traditional culture and the Greek tradition. It deals with the traditional dance and its elements (music, song, traditional costume).
The maintenance and spreading of traditional heritage.

The presentation of tradition and customs internationally that comprise the Greek cultural identity.
The Instigator of the whole effort was Mr Louis Theodotou after his repatriation in 1997 in Cyprus after he had been a dancer and a teacher of dance in a lot of Greek groups for 25 years.

Its base is in Pissouri, in the central square and functions every Wednesday and Saturday from the 4 p.m. up to the 8 p.m.
The administration is practiced by a seven member administrative council which is elected every two years from the members of the association. (Today there are 120 members).

Resources of Folk club, except the subscriptions of the members constitute sponsoring of private and government institutions as well as income from the activities that are forecasted by its statute.

The club organizes every year in July an international festival of traditional dances in Cyprus with the support of Ministry of Education and Culture and Cypriot Organization of Tourism.

CULTURAL CLUB NOSTOS
The Cultural Club Nostos was founded in 1997 and has as its base the beautiful coastal village of Lemesos, Pissouri.
The Cultural Club Nostos constitutes a cultural beehive, that occupies and maintains 30 people who are mainly children.

It presents a continuous intense cultural life during the year , with an important offer in intellectual, cultural, social and national domain.

It maintains and prevails the Cypriot Tradition , it revives customs, participates in the local and national feasts, organises various cultural and social events, entertains Greek foreigner musical and dancing groups, participates in programs of exchanges, organises cultural events every year and a lot of other brilliant events.

The Cultural Club Nostos, collaborates harmoniously with a lot of associations in Greece and abroad.

UNION OF EMIGRANTS AND FRIENDS OF PISSOURIOU

•  BACKGROUND
The S.A.F.P. was founded in April 1995 in an urgent meeting that took place in the Kouloumpia Hotel in Pissouri.

•  AIMS:
A) the promotion of friendship, fraternilasation , collaboration, mutualism, growth of Community and intellectual communication of its Members between them and with the rest of the citizens .

B) The updating of all the interested people of organizations and Authorities of the Cypriot Democracy, for the needs and the problems of the village, and the indication of the role that each one could play for their promotion and resolution.

C) the bigger mobilization of all the Emigrants and friends of Pissouri, the systematization and the reinforcement of efforts for the growth and progress of the village, as a model of tourist resort or as place of permanent accommodation and the creation of work for the growth of production and the economy of the village.

D) The development of initiative and the collaboration with the responsible committee or other local authorities, the residents, and the associations for the joint promotion of demands and the resolution of problems that the community confronts.

E) The reinforcement of every effort for the problems educative and intellectual movement that PISSOURI faces.

F) the reinforcement of every effort for educative and intellectual movement in the village, the intellectual and scientific cultivation and the reinforcement and assistance of Social progress in general.

•  ANNUAL EVENTS
The followings have been established as annual events:

A) the dancing party of EMIGRANTS which take place constantly on the first SATURDAY after the 15th AUGUST every year in the village central square .

B) The celebration of inauguration of church APOSTLE ANDREAS on the 19 th September where the procession of the Saint's Icon is carried around the village, in combination with commercial feast o n 19 th and 20 th September.

In 2002 the 120 years of our church were celebrated with splendor. The Military Music of National guard, Military extract and thousand of pilgrims and tourists participated in it.

C) During November-March the Feast of tree is celebrated where saplings in tens are planted for growth of the greenery in our community.

D) On Easter Monday several musical and dancing events of Local dances and traditional games from young people take place.

•  OTHER ACTIVITIES
Up to today our Union is the pioneer in Common actions of the village.

A) It totally renovated the historical HAVOYZA of Linidion whose inauguration was performed by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Mr Kostas Themistokleous on the 16 th April 2001.

V) It proposed the Construction of the Community Amphitheater and Park and helped economically for its completion in 2000.

C) It played a leading part in the creation of the Council of Community Prosperity Pissouri and helped economically in the construction of children's school under the age of five .

D) It helped, with various financial amounts of money, various Associations, Unions, Organizations and Institutions Beneficial to the public.


•  ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL:
According to the already existing Statute, the Council is consists of 21 members: The Chairman and Vice-president, the Secretary, the Cashier and General Organizational and 16 remaining members. Chairman for 8 continuous years is Haris Antoniadis Stratigos E.A., Vice-president Stefos Zahariou and Secretary Aristidis Potamitis. In MAY 2004 elections of the New Administrative Council of EMIGRANTS will take place.
